Ukraine On A Map

At the end of March, the Washington Post asked 2,066 Americans to find Ukraine on a map. The poll found that only one in six of those asked could find it. What’s worse, the farther away a respondent’s guess was from the actual location of Ukraine, the more likely they were to want U.S. military intervention there.

Each dot is a respondent's guess as to the location of Ukraine. Eeesh.

Frightening.

My inner-Social Studies teacher is cringing.  I can’t go on with my day until I post this:

The actual location of Ukraine on a map

Common Core, the initiative in almost all schools nationwide right now, only covers Language and Math standards leaving it up to schools and teachers to teach Social Studies. If ever there was evidence that it is needed desperately, this is it.
